Higher Education Related Presentations to High School Students
In an effort to increase awareness regarding the importance of a college education and to generally advance the mission of the MELMAC Education Foundation, the Foundation engages in a variety of outreach efforts to middle and high school students across Maine.
During the year, representatives from the Foundation participate in a variety of presentations aimed at high school students and their families. The subject matter focuses on post-secondary education planning. The Executive Director is sometimes asked to help plan the event and/or serve as the moderator of the program.
In addition, the Foundation provides assistance to individual area high school juniors and seniors regarding the college application process. Often these contacts are made as a result of the Foundations participation in an evening program addressing higher education.
Setting Goals, Achieving Dreams
50-minute motivational presentation to high school students
Executive Director Wendy Ault presents this dynamic, engaging and interactive presentation challenging young people to thoughtfully dream about, plan for and realize their future. Ms. Ault shares the two keys to a successful future:
- Setting regular goals
- Achieving a college degree
Through worksheets and games, students discuss their future plans, learn how to and actually practice setting goals (for the remainder of the school year, for their high school career and a more grandiose life goal) and understand the incredible return on investment that a college degree provides in dramatically increased lifetime earnings.
LIFE - Four Basic Guiding Principles for the Journey
12-15 minute motivation talk
Aimed at high school seniors, LIFE provides students with four key pieces of advice to guide them as they begin the next chapter of their lives. Peppered with inspirational quotes and thoughtful anecdotes and analogies, this speech, also delivered by Ms. Ault, relates solid guidelines for a happy and personally rewarding adulthood.
