Maine Central Institute – 2014 October
Via phone call:
Had a brief exchange about the meeting cancellation – Academic Dean and several others out of town or other commitments. Susie did report on continued efforts to recruit new team members. two parents, one teacher, and four students (one from each grade level) will be joining. In addition, two teachers with previous sporadic participation will be leaving the team. Tossed around the idea of me meeting with Academic Dean or Headmaster regarding school wide support.
The college trip to Boston is now a one day trip (vs. an overnight) due to logistics. Date is Nov. 14. They will be visiting Colleges of the Fenway and BU. Target is 40 students and will be open to juniors.
They guidance office offered an evening session for parents on using Naviance and no one showed.
Susie really liked the college bowl program she learned about at the Peer Learning session and is thinking of how to implement a version at MCI withing the school system using HS student mentors.
Oct. 15 was Ready, Set Career Day. Went very well. About 25 employers attended and interacted with over 100 students. Students participated in four 20 minute sessions. Surveys were collected from all participants. Event was for seniors during an underclass testing day.
Susie will be coming to the Belfast meeting at the end of the month as we both agreed it would be beneficial seeing how another team operates. She will meet me there.
Also planning another faculty coffee hour due to the success of the September event.
